Yes, some cabbage
The photo below was part of the default blog post sample in the website editor I’m using. It was so delightful. I had to keep it. I love cabbage so much.
Here’s my German grandmother’s sweet and sour cabbage recipe, which I make all the time and credit for making my kids love cabbage so much.
Sweet and Sour Cabbage
1 large head green cabbage, shredded
4 cups water
1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 medium onion, chopped
3-6 slices bacon, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Shred the cabbage and (optionally) scald it beforehand. Sauté bacon and onion until browned and crispy. Then add all other ingredients and simmer for at least 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
Serve over/with mashed potatoes. Goes extremely well with sausages and beer (but you knew that already).
